The primary manufacturing company for photon-based weapons in the Rebirth universe is Colonial Arms. They produce a wide variety of weaponry- some of a non-photon nature, but the majority of which is powered by energy cells- or, in some cases, cores. Among their list of weaponry are:
Projectile Weaponry
-U-206 Gauss Rifle: The U-206 Gauss Rifle is unique in its design that it uses a single, small photon core to power electromagnets that propel the 24mm "Lancet" rounds through the weapon's barrel. Lancet rounds resemble nothing so much as sharpened railroad spikes; the injuries caused by a Lancet impacting its target are grave indeed. The downside to the 206? Its accuracy. Beyond about fifteen meters, Lancet rounds' design flaw becomes apparent, and the rounds tend to veer off in any direction.
Cost: 20,000 Credits, give or take.
-U-211 Rotary Cannon: The U-211 Rotary Cannon, though patterned after M134 chainguns of the 20th and 21st centuries, does not actually rotate. Its design is similar in most regards to the U-234 Assault Rifle- but rather than using a simple, modular magazine to power its six discharge barrels, the U-211 uses a bulky array of photon cores and cells housed in the main body of the weapon. The tradeoff in weight is well worth the weapon's affinity for destruction, though: a single burst from the 211 brings all but the most heavily-armored foes to their knees. U-211s are rated Restricted-Use by the Viglance body, meaning that only active military or VP personnel, and Hunters with the proper paperwork filed may use them.
Cost: 175,000 Credits. Regulated weapon.
-U-223 Shotgun: The U-233 Photon Shotgun is one of the most lethal weapons in Colonial Arms' catalog, unleashing a conical barrage of photon bullets at the pull of the trigger. So great is the energy expended with this blast, however, that early models- the U223C- were essentially "throwaway" weapons to be fired once and dropped. The U-223A posed a response to this problem, however: a pump-action would generate enough photon energy to fire another shot. U-223's are rated Prohibited-Use, Class E, and only Hunters' Guild members may use these weapons (though they are discouraged from doing so, as the blast from the weapon rarely leaves its target in less than six distinct pieces).
Cost: 90,000 Credits. Guild-restricted weapon.
-U-234 Assault Rifle: The U-234 Assault Rifle was designed to emulate and improve upon assault rifle designs, providing long range, a high rate of fire, and a modular, easy-to-modify body. The U234’s "clip" is actually a small photon core, capable of discharging anything between one hundred and six hundred shots, based on the rifle’s intensity calibration. Most Hunters find it unnecessary to carry more than one or two of these clips on their person when going on a Hunt, particularly after the advent of the Hydrogen-Intake Core Charger, a device roughly the size of a pistol clip that will rapidly charge a photon core. U-234 Assault Rifles are patterned initially after the M14 rifle employed in the twentieth century; however, a massive number of "body kits" for the U-234’s internal workings exist to convert the rifle into any rifle used in the past.
Cost: 40,000 Credits, give or take.
-U-236 Sniper Rifle: The U-236 Sniper Rifle is specially-designed for Marksmen, patterned heavily after the M107 employed by military forces in the twenty-first century. Its photon core is sealed inside the weapon’s outer casing, designed to discharge in a huge burst, then recharge rapidly. The U-236 does, however, feature a "plug" that enables the user to connect it to a larger photon core- even to the reactor of battle cruisers or outposts- which gives the weapon a drastically-increased rate of fire and even increases its output intensity.
Cost: 60,000 Credits, give or take.
-U-250 Submachine Gun: The U-250 Submachine Gun was engineered to fill the gap between the U-255 TMP and the U-234 Assault Rifle. It was intended for mid-range engagements, patterned after the UMP submachine gun engineered in the late twentieth century. Its clip is, like the U-234, a small photon core, but is engineered to fire between six hundred and fifteen hundred photon rounds, the latter of which is often used by Vigilancee Body law enforcement units to "sting" their target into submission. The U-250 fell out of favor, however, shortly after the U-255 was re-issued.
Cost: 55,000 Credits, give or take.
-U-255 Machine Pistol: The U-255 Machine Pistol was engineered, originally, for Vigilante law enforcement units aboard Colony II to offer a stable, compact alternative to the bulkier U-234. The U-255 is patterned after the MP7 machine pistol engineered in the twenty-first century. The U-255 was one of the first photon weapons to feature a semi-automatic fire mode that was used regularly. The U-255’s photon core is too small to sustain prolonged fire, but it charges fairly quickly- unless the core is drained entirely, curiously. Researchers do not understand this phenomenon, despite massive amounts of government funding.
Cost: 65,000 Credits, give or take.
-U-267 Combat Pistol: The U-267 Combat Pistol was engineered to provide a reliable sidearm for use in prolonged combat situations. Patterned originally after the twentieth-century M1911 pistol, the U-267, like the U-234, has had a large number of custom body kits designed for it. The U-267 is little more than a miniature photon core and a discharge trigger, but the wonder of its design is that the U-267 has a HICC built into its handgrip that is continuously in use- essentially creating an unlimited source of fire. The U-267’s discharge, however, is considerably lacking in long-range stopping power, relegating it to close-quarters use only. The U-267 is the standard-issue sidearm for all Colonial forces.
Cost: 20,000 Credits, give or take.
-U-271 Squad Automatic Weapon: The U-271 Squad Automatic Weapon fills the role of antipersonnel weaponry very nicely. Its relatively large photon core is capable of discharging between two and three thousand intense photon rounds at an impressive forty rounds a second. One notable hazard of using a U-271, however, is that the core is prone to overheating and exploding when fire is sustained for more than a few seconds. The U-271S, however, features an automatic safeguard that shuts down the photon core if it comes close to such a critical state. The U-271 was patterned after the M60 and MG42 heavy machineguns used in the twentieth century.
Cost: 100,000 Credits. Regulated weapon.
-U-283 Anti-Armor Weapon: The U-283 Anti-Armor Weapon was engineered after the RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenade launcher used in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The U-283 is the only U-series weapon that does not utilize a photon core as a renewable source of energy; rather, it induces a critical reaction in smaller photon cores and propels them forward using electromagnets. These volatile photon cores explode on impact, causing severe damage to vehicles, entrenched positions, and clusters of personnel. The U-283A variant is engineered with a trajectory system for use as a mobile anti-air defense weapon.
Cost: 125,000 Credits. Regulated weapon.
